      NEVER MARRIED.
Newspaper story 1919 of Aunt Bettie's 90th birthday.

Saturday, May 10th, many relatives and friends of Aunt Bettie 'Montgomery gathered at her home in Liberty township, on Shoal Creek with well filled baskets and set a bountiful dinner, under the large oak trees, in remembrance of her 90th birthday. Aunt Bettie was born to Rav county, Tenn., in 1829, and came with her parents, in an ox wagon to this county, and two years later, moved on the place where she now lives, making 75 years continuous residence on the farm which her parents settled in 1814. They bought the claim from the late Judge Jessee Warren, and he, and her father the late Samuel Montgomery went to '"Springfield, horseback and entered the land, paving $1.25 per acre."

Aunt Bettie has lived to see many changes in her long and useful life, taking an active part when people raised the cotton and wool from the sheep, from which all their clothing was made, except a few Sunday garments which were purchased at Neosho the nearest town, and later on at Cassville, which was then a small village.

She used to weave many beautiful coverlets, counterpanes, flannels, jears, blankets, linsey, etc, and cut and made men's suits.

She was not only noted for her kindness and agreeable disposition, she has tenderly nursed and cared for three generations of the Montgomery family, viz. Robert Montgomery's young of a large family, Marvel who now lives in a part of the house with them and his little, son Robert Clayton, 13 months old.

Greatly to the delight of all present Capt. James Montgomery and his three sons, Albert, Finis and Joseph, Mrs. Jane Montgomery, her daughter Mrs. Inez Smith and little son Orville Joshua all of Okmulgee, OK, attended the dinner.

Other old people present were: J. D. Wooten and Mrs. Jane Howerton, Wheaton, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Lauderdale, Aunt Mary Harrell, Mrs. Maggie Antle, Mrs. Harve McClure, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Reed, Aunt Lizzie Montgomery, Mrs. Sallie Brattin and Miss Dorcas Woodward and sister Miss Tennessee and many others only a few years younger. There were 75 or 80 persons present.

      Notes on the side:
This was Elizabeth Jane (Aunt Bettie) Montgomery. Sister to James, Joshua, Thomas, Carroll and Robert Montgomery.

      Written 1919.

Aunt Bettier cared for her younger brother Rober, Marvel Robert's son and Clayton, Marvel's son.

Mrs. Jane Montgomery is wife of Joshua, Brother to James and Thomas Carroll. Joshua died in 1912.
